Product Review
The unit is simply perfect, solid construction with two FW ports. The enclosure uses both FireWire and USB 2.0, but can function on a USB 1.1 connection as well. Although it has a port for an AC adapter, one does not come with the unit. It is normally powered via your connection (either FireWire or USB). What does come with the unit are a FireWire cable, a USB cable, extra screws, a soft slip pouch, and a driver CDROM (which in most cases is not needed).
The outer shell is aluminum with rubber strips on both the top and bottom in order to prevent surface scratches. Adding a drive to the enclosure is a simple matter of removing two side screws, removing the rear cover where the device's USB and IEEE 1394 FireWire inputs are located, and then sliding in the drive as if it were on rails. To operate, simply connect the unit to your computer as with any FireWire/USB device, and then flick the enclosure's on/off toggle switch. Its designed for 2.5" IDE HDD (up to 9mm height) and works for both Mac and PC (no driver required except Win98).
