The Kite Runner is the debut novel of author Khalid Hosseini that tells an educational and eye-opening account of Afghanistans political turmoil. He did with his characters whose heartbreaking struggles and emotional triumphs resonate with the reader even after the last page has been turned over.
This is the story of Amir, the privileged son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul and of his fathers servant, Hassan. In a relatively stable Afghanistan in the early 1970s, the boy were inseparable; spending idyllic days flying kites and telling each other stories of mystical places and powerful warriors until all these ended when the boy and his father fled to America. An unspeakable event that changed the nature of their relationship forever and eventually cements their bond in ways both boys never predicted. After flight to America, Amir, haunted by his cowardly actions and disloyalty, came back to his war-torn native land after it comes under the Taliban rule.
Its a riveting story with its characters that seem so real that one can almost forget that The Kite Runner is a novel and not a memoir. Its a great read for a debut novel.
