Rocket Sign Language is an interactive package for learning the American Sign Language (also know as ASL).
Even though ASL is commonly used throughout the United States, its signs and phrases have little to do with the usual English language. In fact, ASL is a language on its own: it even has regional variations and other specific ways of expressing ideas. With ASL, a lot can be said simply by using different facial expressions. If you, for example, raise your eyebrows and widen your eyes, you have just expressed a question. While learning ASL you have to be careful, though – just like words, some gestures and signs can be offensive and disrespectful to the recipient.
There are several ways you can learn ASL and Rocket Sign Language is one of them. It is interactive and it includes several tools that help you learn. The main part of the package are different software programs. They will teach you to fingerspell (finger spelling is an important part of communication in the deaf community), you will learn signs for the most common words and phrases and the meaning of various facial expressions.
