Habitat for Humanity’s eighth annual 5K pledge walk, the Foot x Foot Walk, is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2008. Habitat volunteers are currently recruiting individual walkers and teams. This is Habitat’s only major fundraising event of the year, with funds being raised for infrastructure costs and the second duplex in Habitat’s new subdivision on Colorado Ave, the Jimmy Carter Subdivision (so named in honor of Habitat’s most famous volunteer). The walk is also intended to raise awareness of poor housing conditions in our community and provide an opportunity for new volunteers to get involved in the organization. In the past, team walkers have dressed in costumes – there are prizes for “Best Costume” and the team with the most walkers will receive the traveling “foot x foot” trophy for a year. Walkers are asked to collect pledges of at least $75, the amount needed to pay for 1 square foot of a Habitat home. Business sponsors and walkers are acknowledged in Habitat’s weekly e-newsletter and in the Daily Boomerang once a month. All registered walkers and sponsors receive a t-shirt of the event, designed by a Habitat family child, and a drink and snack.
