Other Smooth Elliptical Comparison Reviews
Side-By-Side ReviewBoth the Smooth CE 2.1 and the Smooth CE 7.4 have been around for a while. Smooth Fitness began selling these two elliptical trainers back in 2006 so with a few years of fine tuning, if there were any obvious problems or bugs, they would have ironed them out by now. This is one of the main advantages of buying models that have been around for a while.
Comparing these two elliptical isn’t really fair because one is the lowest priced from Smooth and the other is the highest priced. Thus, you can expect not only quite a few differences and improvements. This review aims to summarize what those differences are.
One of the most important things you should consider before buying anything is the quality and reliability. If you look at these two ellipticals from Smooth, you can see that they have a huge warranty difference between them. One is 5 years parts and the other is 2 years parts. You only ever need to look at the warranty of the parts because labor is pretty much standard at 1 year for all companies (with the exception of a very few) and frame is pretty much lifetime or close to lifetime if the machine is of at least average quality. So you see a 3 years parts difference which suggests that the Smooth CE7.4 really is a fair bit better than the Smooth CE2.1.
You’ll also notice that there is a 35 lbs difference in the two machine’s unit weight. This is pretty significant a weight difference and many users will likely notice the difference in stability while exercising on it. With a heavier machine weight usually comes a higher weight capacity. In this case, this holds true with a 50 pound max user weight difference. Although many users do not even approach this weight, by being able to support heavier users, this is proof that the machine is at least that much more reliable.
Surprisingly, the Smooth CE7.4 actually comes with fewer programs than the Smooth CE2.1. Why the company decided to do this is beyond me but unless you have a specific program that you need, this shouldn’t make too much of a difference. Although the Smooth CE 2.1 is likely better than many of its competitors in this price range, I still feel a bit hesitant recommending it as it is the lowest offering from the company. With the Smooth CE7.4 being a much better machine, I would pick that one if I can afford it. But if you can’t afford the CE7.4 but feel the Smooth CE2.1 is insufficient for your needs, you would do yourself a favor by checking out the Smooth CE3.2 or the Smooth CE.
