Smooth 6.17 vs Smooth 7.1HR Pro – Treadmill Review & Comparison

Quick Links

Other Smooth Treadmill Comparison Reviews

Side-By-Side Review

If you are comparing these two treadmills when the Smooth 7.1HR Pro sells for the regular retail price of $1999, there is no comparison. The Smooth 6.17 wins hands down as the better deal of the two (not necessarily because the Smooth 6.17 is such a great down but because the Smooth 7.1 HR Pro is such a bad deal.) But when the Smooth 7.1HR Pro sells for somewhere around $1700, this comparison gets a lot more interesting. Let’s take a look why.

To give you some background, the Smooth 7.1HR Pro has been around for a while although not always under this name. At one time, it was called the Smooth 7.1HR without the “Pro” and at that time, it was awarded with best buy awards from experts. The Smooth 6.17 is an entirely new model released in 2008 so we do not know how it holds up in the real world simply because there isn’t enough data on it.

So which one is the better treadmill? The answer to this question heavily depends on what your needs are. Are you a serious runner or are you a casual but regular jogger? Are you taller than the average population? Do you need a treadmill that looks good? Let me outline their differences below so you can judge what’s best for you based on your needs.

Surprisingly, the Smooth 6.17 actually has a longer belt than the more expensive Smooth 7.1 HR Pro by two inches. They share a treadbelt with the same width. The console screen is more modern and sophisticated on the Smooth 6.17. But the Smooth 6.17 is lighter and has a lower weight capacity than the Smooth 7.1 HR Pro. It also has a horsepower rating that is lower and doesn’t allow you to fold automatically (i.e power folding) like the Smooth 7.1 HR Pro. So as you can see, it isn’t so clear cut as to which treadmill is better even if you pay a much higher price in the Smooth 7.1HR Pro.

If you aren’t a serious runner, you probably don’t need the longer lasting Smooth 7.1 HR Pro. These people will likely enjoy their Smooth 6.17 much more because it not only is less expensive, it’s longer and looks better. If you are in indeed a serious runner, you might be better off with Smooth 7.1 HR Pro although I dare say that the Smooth 6.25 is a comparably built treadmill at not nearly that high of a price.

Winner: Smooth 6.17
