Cromartie, considered to be a risky choice in the draft, was picked up 19th by the San Diego Chargers. With only a limited college career, Cromartie's ideal size, speed and big play abilities were enough for San Diego to assume the risk. As such, Cromartie in just his second year, finished 4th in the AP Defensive Player of the Year voting, recorded 10 interceptions to lead the NFL, and set an unbeatable record when he ran a missed field goal attempt 109 yards for a touchdown.
