Other Smooth Elliptical Comparison Reviews
Sometimes, longer isn’t necessarily better. For ellipticals, a longer stride doesn’t necessarily equate with a more comfortable workout.
The Smooth CE 7.4 features the longest stride out of Smooth Fitness’ 4 ellipticals at 21 inches. This is compared to the 19” of the Smooth CE PLUS which also happens to be the company’s most expensive unit. So as you can see, the most expensive unit (and thus presumed to be the highest quality unit) doesn’t necessarily have the longest stride.
The consoles of both of these elliptical trainers are quite different from each other. The Smooth CE PLUS features a modern looking LCD display while the Smooth CE 7.4 features a dot matrix type of display. Although it’s a personal preference but the Smooth CE PLUS looks better with the LED display. This is also to be expected since it is the more expensive unit of the two.
If you’re concerned about getting bored working out on an elliptical trainer, the Smooth CE PLUS elliptical really hopes to eliminate that problem by providing a total of 48 programs. Compare this to the 8 featured on the CE 7.4 and we quickly see which machine has the advantage here.
It should also be noted that the CE PLUS is the newer model of the two. Smooth released the CE PLUS sometime in 2007 while the Smooth CE 7.4 has been released a few years back. If you’re looking for an updated piece of machinery, the Smooth CE PLUS is the one.
Even though the Smooth CE PLUS is better than the CE 7.4 in every conceivable area that relates to its spec, there is one thing that it can’t beat the CE 7.4 in and that’s price. You can expect to pay as much as $800 more than the CE 7.4 to get your hands on the CE PLUS. If money is not a concern, by all means pick the more expensive unit but for most people, the less expensive unit of the two is probably sufficient.
