The Smooth CE 3.2 elliptical trainer is hands down, the better elliptical of the two. If you happen to catch the Smooth CE 2.1 and the CE 3.2 at the same price, then there’s no doubt the Smooth CE 3.2 is the way to go. But when they’re not selling for the same price, we have to take a look at what makes the Smooth CE 3.2 better than the CE 2.1.

If you look at the console of the CE 3.2, you can see that it’s quite different than the CE 2.1. The CE 2.1 elliptical has one big blue backlit LCD screen. The CE 3.2 has a LED screen along with a few other screens. Basically, you’re comparing a console with one big pretty screen with another console that has many more but less pretty screens.

The Smooth CE 3.2 comes with a wireless heart rate control strap that automatically adjusts the resistance level to match your desired heart rate. For many buyers, this is a welcome and a useful addition. If you’re wondering why this is a useful feature, you probably haven’t heard of heart rate training. Essentially, if you work in your target heart rate zone which is different depending on your age, you can obtain the maximum health benefits such as burning more fat instead of muscle. By having the elliptical automatically adjust to your target heart rate, the results of your workout are maximized.

The Smooth CE 3.2 elliptical trainer is also warranted for a longer period of time – 1 year on parts to be exact. Although it doesn’t seem like much, it does show that the user is likely investing in a machine that the company believes is built better and thus last longer.

Both elliptical trainers feature the same programs so there’s no difference here.

Finally, the Smooth CE 2.1 elliptical does not have the ability to store up to 9 user profiles unlike the Smooth CE 3.2. This is quite useful for households that have multiple users and thus different workout requirements.
