Both the Schwinn 418 elliptical trainer and the Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer are made by Nautilus, the parent company behind well known brands such as Bowflex and Schwinn. Both of this ellipticals are extremely popular online judging from how they always seem to rank in the top 5 within all Amazon elliptical trainers.

With only about a $50 price difference between the two ellipticals, I’m sure you want to know the differences between the two machines and which one to buy so let’s get started.

The Schwinn 418 is priced at $649 while the Schwinn 430 is $50 less at $599. For about just a tank of gas more, you’re really getting your money’s worth in the Schwinn 418. For example, the 418 features a longer labor warranty at 6 months instead of the 90 days you find the 430. It is also heavier than the 418 but a whole 20 pounds. If you’re concerned about the stability of your elliptical, a good point to keep in mind is that usually, the heavier the machine, the better. That is why the Schwinn 418 will likely feel more solid when you pedal.

The Schwinn 418 also features HRC or heart rate control programs. These HRC programs automatically adjust how difficult your workout is depending on your heart rate. In theory, these programs will allow you to work in your optimal heart rate zone all the time to obtain optimal results but there’s a possibility that if the heart rate sensors are inaccurate, the programs become useless.

In place of the HRC programs, the Schwinn 430 features a results mode and a BMI test instead. These programs allow you to track your progress.

Finally, there are 8 more resistance levels (16 total) on the Schwinn 430 elliptical than the 418. Even though there are twice as many resistance levels, this doesn’t necessarily mean that your workouts are twice as challenging on the Schwinn 430 compared to the Schwinn 418.

Even though it’s $50 more, it’s better if you buy the Schwinn 418. With a longer labor warranty, this is indicative of the company being more confident in it than the Schwinn 430.
