Flair Bartending
Is It Just A Guys Thing?

Flair Bartending, Is It Just A Guys Thing?

Flair Bartending is a type of entertaining bartending method that is utilized quite a bit by the guys. If you saw "Cocktail" with Tom Cruise, then you know what I'm talking about. However, it has evolved quite a bit since then. The tosses you saw in the movie have now evolved into intricate sequences that boggle the mind. They toss shaker tins, glassware and bottles all over the place.

There are two types of Flair Bartending, one is "working" flair, for the working bartender, involving moves while you are mixing drinks. The other is "showmanship" flair, for those who aren't making drinks, just outrageuos routines.

You will find Flair Bartending competitions held around the world for huge cash prizes. The one thing I noticed is that most of those top competitors are men. Every top rated flair bartender seems to be a guy.

Why?

I started asking questions, and I received a few strange answers from male bartenders. I have to warn you, that the two most common answers are somewhat sexist. Again, these are answers I received, not my own opinion.

Answer #1- Women aren't good at Flair bartending because their hands are smaller than mens, so they can't hold onto the bottle as well. What? The bottles are scaled just like the bottles behind the bar. If a woman can pour a liquor from a bottle while holding onto it, she can darn sure catch one!

Answer #2- (This is so sexist, it's not funny.) Women don't need to learn how to flair bartend, because they have other "Assets". Oh, now that's assuming every woman has a great bod, is young, and knows how to flirt. What about the woman who doesn't fit the category? Someone who doesn't have a body people would want to see in a skimpy outfit?

What about the woman, who would enjoy flair bartending competitions? Maybe she just thinks it's cool, and wants to learn?

I say go for it! Come on Ladies, we can Flair Bartend just as well as the guys, and I myself am even going to take a Flair Bartending Course in January just to prove it.

I was told men need to learn to Flair to get a job and make great tips. They say women have assets......so, what if a woman with assets could also Flair Bartend? Watch out world......
